Today saw the start of the Auto Expo 2010, which is being held in New Delhi, India. There are a number of concept cars on show, but the model that most eyes were on was the Toyota Etios. This is not the production model, but at least those attending were able to get a first impression on this car that is important to India.
The Toyota Etios on show were concept versions of the hatchback and sedan and look very close to what the final production model will look like when launched by the end of the year. The sedan version will be the first version of the Toyota Etios in the country, with the hatchback following in January 2011.
Toyota hopes to be able to shift the Etios sedan and hatch in big numbers, as this is one of the emerging markets. Toyota already sell premium models in India, but the launch of the Etios will see it compete with the likes of the Maruti Suzuki.
The first model to enter production, as we know will be the sedan version, offering a 1.5-liter gas engine. The hatchback will come with a smaller 1.2-liter engine; so will come with lower excise duties. According to bsmotoring.com, the design of the mall vehicle is ‘bold simplicity.’
Toyota have said that the cars will be the best in their class and that the price will be competitive, we will have to wait and see
