LONDON — The American Civil Liberties Union has written a letter in support of an autistic British man fighting to avoid extradition to the United States to face trial for hacking into military computers.
The ACLU urged British officials to review extradition agreements in light of the case of Gary McKinnon. He is charged with breaking into 97 defense computers soon after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.
The group says the case highlights the need for judicial review of each extradition case.
The letter was released Thursday as the British legal advocacy group, Liberty, protested outside the American Embassy in London in support of McKinnon.
Britain''s High Court last month rejected McKinnon''s bid to avoid extradition. His lawyers said they will appeal.
