Summary:

A farmer who has been matchmaking couples in Ireland for more than 40 years has written a book about his life. Willie Daly, who grew up and still lives in the wilds of County Clare, carries on a family tradition started by his grandfather and father.

Article:
He is a farmer tending to his horses and cattle by day, but at night, his focus turns to romance.

At his kitchen table with his family''s 100-year-old matchmaking diary in front of him, he spends his evenings pairing lonely hearts.

Men and women from all over Ireland and the world shun speed and internet dating and instead contact the traditional matchmaker hoping he can find them the partner they have been looking for.

"When you are creating a match you have to have a certain amount of magic involved," he explained.

"If I was finding a partner for you and we were meeting in the reception of a hotel when you see him walking towards you, you would become a little bit spellbound."

Mr Daly is now famous for his work during the annual matchmaking festival, which is held in Lisdoonvarna near where he lives every September.

It attracts 40,000 single people and the matchmaker has an office in the local pub for the season.

But when the festival ends, his matchmaking goes on.

Bob and Patsy Meisel were introduced to each other by Mr Daly.

Patsy said: "It''s almost about six years ago. He said ''I have someone I want you to meet''. I was out with friends. He introduced me to Bob and we have been together ever since."

Mr Daly is fiercely proud of his beloved County Clare, famous for its Cliffs of Moher. Any view from the matchmaker''s country cottage could provide the backdrop for a romantic novel or film.

It is the landscape which has now motivated him to write his own epic love story about his passion for matchmaking. The Last Matchmaker is Mr Daly''s life story, filled with his matchmaking tales.

"I think romance is terribly important and there isn''t an age that it''s too late not to be in love," he said.
